Today on Decorate with Us | Mantel styling, the girls and I are sharing how we decorate our mantels.  I will have the other girl’s blog post linked at the bottom of my page.

Today, I’m sharing how I styled our mantel since I gave it a new look.  Not only did I want to change the look of the fireplace, but also the mantel and hearth’s decor.

I love how our mantel is centered by the two windows and how the brick now plays with my color palette.

Every season and through holidays our fireplace mantel takes center stage! I love creating new looks each year for each of the holiday it adds a beautiful atmosphere to our home.

How To Style An Everyday Mantel

Anchor Piece

To kick off the mantel’s decor I like to start with the anchor piece.  I’m actually using two pieces for my anchor, the hutch doors and the Kirkland’s frame.  Putting them together makes a perfect statement for the mantel.

I hung the mirror to the wall and lend the frame up against the mirror.  I applied double sided tape to the back of the frame to grab the mirror for reinforcement.

The mirror itself is a nice focal point, adding the artwork added interest and color to the mantel.

Balance

Always keep balance of your setting, good design balance gives off feelings of stability and wellness.

To off-set the heaviness of the frame to the anchor pieces, I added a vase with stems to the other side.

Fillers

We talked about the anchor piece and balancing your mantel, now to complete the mantel we need to add fillers.   A mix of height and texture in the pieces will tie the mantel together.

For my fillers, I added three wooden candle holders and greenery to add texture and warmth to my mantel.

I kept the hearth balanced as well as the mantel.  Having the chair next to the hearth it creates an unbalanced look, I added two lanterns with different height to balance out the hearth.

The black and wood details of the lanterns keep the eye flowing from the mantel to the hearth.

I purchased the lanterns in Kirkland’s, they are not available 🙁

I hope you enjoyed my blog post on how I styled our fireplace in a traditional style, i also hope you were inspired by something I shared.
