For my inspiration I have a couple DIYs for you. I am so excited to share my fun kitchen table and how I have it set this Fall. I decorated my table in orange & white. To me, it’s probably my favorite Fall tablescape that I have created.
Let’s start with the first DIY I have on my table. My DIY tray….
I shared this on a previous DIY blog, to view the tutorial you can go here ⇒ DIY SERVING TRAY. I placed the tray in the center of my table to create my table’s centerpiece.
For the second DIY I will create a pumpkin tray vignette. Keeping from having to purchase the color pumpkins I need, I spray painted pumpkins I already have. A great way to keep things budget friendly.
In my stories I shared how I created my pumpkin tray centerpiece. If you missed the video tutorial you can go to my Instagram account page and select ⇒ TRAY OF PUMPKINS.
Do you notice my orange and white buffalo check chargers?? They are the third DIY I am sharing.
I love grabbing the Dollar Tree chargers when I create a table. I have used the Dollar Tree chargers often when setting a table. They are so inexpensive and easy to paint. To check out all my DIY Chargers you can go here ⇒ DIY CHARGERS.
Let’s get to the orange and white buffalo check charger tutorial, shall we?
Here are the items you will need to make 4 buffalo check chargers
- 4 Charger plates – I am using silver Dollar Tree chargers
- 2 rolls of Dollar Tree painter’s tape
- 3 different shades of orange spray paint – I am using Orange/Orange (this paint is so old I don’t even know the name of the paint. Krylon Pumpkin Orange and Krylon Implement Orange. You will use a lighter, a medium and a dark color of your choice for the check pattern.
- a base color spray paint – I am using Matte Clamshell for the base of my chargers. You will want to use a very light color for you base
- Ivory or white chalk paint
- Acrylic craft paints close to the spray paint colors you use

Using the base color painting two coats on the front side of the chargers.
I will be using the painter’s tape for the next few steps.
The first piece of tape I just eyeballed it on the plate horizontally. Starting on one side appling pressure, working your way to the other end of the charger. I made sure I pressed the tape into the curvature of the charger.
For the second step I took another piece of tape to use as my space guide. I placed it down below the first piece, not pressing it down.
Taking another piece of tape and I applied it under the space guide the same way as the first piece. Remove the space guide tape.
Keep doing the three steps until you finish taping the whole charger.
When you get to the part of the charger where it is mostly the curves of the charger. You will apply the tape but press the curve in the center first. There will be wrinkles but just press them as smooth as you can.
When you come to the end and it is a small piece left to deal with, still tape it off. This will keep your line spacing even.
When I do a project with painter’s tape I like to give it one coat of the base color before changing colors. This will help seal the edges of the tape to stop most of the paint from bleeding.
This is how your chargers should look all taped.
After I spray painted the base coat I used the lighter of the orange paint (I used orange-orange). I gave the plates one thin coat. As you can tell I spray painted a pumpkin while having the Matte Clamshell out. 🙂
Remove the tape slowly and carefully.
Next turn the charger where the lines are horizontal in front of you. Do the same procedure taping the plates making vertical lines.
After I have all the chargers taped I took the next shade of orange (I used pumpkin orange).
I gave all 4 one coat.
For this step leave the tape on. Making a set of tape lines opposite of what’s on the plate now. You should be able to see where the existing tape lines were, we removed in the first shade of orange, try to use those as a guide.
Make sure your tape lines are all pressed down on the plate.
Take the darker of the orange (I used implement orange), spray the chargers one coat.
Carefully remove both sets of tape.
I am taking some acrylic craft paint matching as close to the spray paint colors for touching up.
I want my chargers to look more like a piece of flannel, I did a dry brushing with ivory chalk paint to the charger.
The last step. Apply some Minwax Finishing wax to all the chargers.
Working on the place settings I am going to put back my white wicker place mats on the table. I pulled out my orange Dollar Tree dinner plates to sit on the chargers. And again placing back on the table my Mud Pie plates.
For fun I added a napkin fold pumpkin sitting on top of the plates.
My last DIY for the table is the Pumpkin Napkin Fold. I told you I have a lot of DIYs wrapped into this one blog.
Here are the items you need
- napkin
- basic round napkin ring
- cinnamon stick
- faux maple leaf
- glue stick and glue gun

Place your napkin on a flat surface and place the napkin ring in the center.
Pull the napkin through the napkin ring 2 inches.
Take the corners, one at a time and tuck inside the napkin ring. Make sure you keep the 2 inch center piece as is.
Folding and tucking in the center the 4 edges. I had to have a little help with a pin to help tuck in the last corner.
Turn your shape over.
Start fluffing and shaping your napkin.
To make the stem for my pumpkin I hot glued a small maple leaf to a cinnamon stick.
Making sure there is enough space to place the cinnamon stick into the center of the napkin.
Aren’t they the cutest sitting on the plates??
I just love the ray of light the orange and white creates on my table.
Happy Fall y’all!!
