WALL DECOR ON A BUDGET

Hey friends!  You know I am switching out my home décor colors, doing it budget-friendly.  I changed up my pillows with affordable pillow covers and now I am adding a colorful print to the wall. Who doesn’t love a pretty print in a frame? The perfect frame art can take a room from good to great in the time it takes to hang it on the wall.  The hard part is finding the right piece for an affordable price.

I was on the hunt for finding something with pops of color.  You know budget friendly isn’t always easy.  I took my hunt over to Hobby Lobby’s frame department.  I started looking at their prints.  I found one print and guess what ??  It was on clearance.  How lucky is this?

After finding the print I took a look at their frames then I remember I had an old frame up in the attic, it might be the same size or I could cut the print down to size.  I bought the print and headed home praying that the frame would be the right size.

I was so excited, it was the perfect fit….I mean really how lucky can this girl be?

It had a yard sale price tag still on it.  When I pulled that off it took with it some of the frame.  I am applying paint to it so I wasn’t too concern.  Look how perfect the size is?

I had to remove the paper backing to see how it was held in.

I was hoping it was held in with those little metal clips…nope with staples.  UGH!

Removing the staples wasn’t hard at all.

I am going to give the frame my version of white washing.  Taking some white latex paint and dry brushing it onto the frame.

The place where the sticker was didn’t cover so I took some brown paint and applied it to the area.  After it dries I will apply the white.

Taking a damp cloth and wiping down the frame to remove a little of the white paint.

Now heading over to work on the new print.  The front side of the old print had a texture finish to it so I applied the new print to the back side of the old one.  Did I lose you in the circle. ha!  To apply the print like wallpaper, I painted on the adhesive on the back of the new print, I folded it to allow the paste to set a little.  Applied it to the board and smoothed it with a wallpaper brush.

Attached it into the frame with staples.

I am so thrilled  how it looks. 🙂  Something like this would easily run $30 to $50.  It only cost me under $5.  I placed this above my two floor lanterns.

A great way to save money decorating your home would be giving an old frame a new look. Save this until you are ready to take your old frame and give it some well deserve love again…pin on your Pinterest board.

  1. Great job Terrie I’ve been there with a frame. It’s a bit of a bummer but in my experience the clips weren’t easy to get back in all the time.

    Enjoy your day
