Today is the 10th of the month which means it’s the Under $10 on the 10th. In this blog hop we share how you can create something $10 or under.   The blog hop is hosted each month by Tammy over at Patina and Paint, the theme of today’s blog is, Christmas in July.  Never too early to start creating for my favorite holiday of all, right?  At the bottom of my page, I will have all the blogger’s Christmas project linked for you.

The Christmas tree I am sharing can be painted, stained or designed any way that fits your Christmas home.  Keep on reading to see how I create a cute Christmas tree out of Dollar Tree items!

The supplies you will need:

• wooden planks (Dollar Tree-Crafter Square 6 pc package)
• wooden arrow (Dollar Tree)
• small wooden crate (Dollar Tree)

Other items and tools you will need:

• hot glue gun and glue sticks
• wood glue
• wood filler
• sandpaper
• paint or stain
• saw or utility knife
• Christmas greenery and ornaments (in my Christmas stash)
• fairy lights (Dollar Tree)

A Wooden Christmas Tree DIY

Step One ~ making the Christmas tree base

Remove the string and staples from the wooden arrow.

With a saw or utility knife cut the arrowhead off the plank. Sand the cut end smooth.

Add wood glue and hot glue to the edges of the crate, center the cut off arrow plank to the top of the glued crate.

Step Two ~ making the shingle sides for the Christmas tree

Take three of the 6 wooden planks and measure 2 ½ inches on one end and mark.

With both wood glue and hot glue, apply to the small mark area of one plank.

Place another plank, (line up) on top of the glue, making sure not to go past the marked line.

Repeat the last step with the third marked plank.

Repeat the above steps to create another shingle plank.

Step Three~ creating the Christmas tree 

Add both wood and hot glue in a thin line to one side of the base.

Apply one end of the shingle planks, planks facing downwards on the outside, into the glue.  Prop the plank with an item to keep in place.

Do the same step with the other side.  Making sure the hot glue is cool before moving to the next step.

Apply both glues to the top inside plank. Pinch until the hot glue cools.

Step Four ~ attaching the fairy light box to the base

Before painting, attach the fairy control box to the back of the base with hot glue.  Do not add lights yet.

Step Five ~ paint your Christmas tree and fairy control box

I will be painting my tree with Country Chic white paint.

After painting the first coat I was not happy with the gaps between planks, so I filled them, with wood filler, let dry, sand, wiped down with a damp cloth and painted another coat of white paint.

A lot better.

Step Six ~ decorate your tree

This is where you create to style your Christmas tree with decorations.  I am decorating mine in red with Christmas berries and greenery.

Hot glued a piece of floral foam to add my picks.

Tacked the fairy lights to the back with hot glue, placing them back and forth in a zigzag position.

Not sure where I will be placing my Christmas tree decoration, but I know it will look fantastic anywhere in our home this Christmas!
