Revamping ceramic decoration into an ornament! Give them a fresh new look with white paint and gold detailing!
Every year I find an inspiration to decorate our home for Christmas, this year, I decided to decorate with nutcrackers. I gathered up several of Dollar General small ceramic nutcrackers to convert into ornaments.
I went to several Dollar Generals to fine the amount I needed. I did find some white, but I had to buy some in different colors. I believe the look of white nutcracker ornaments will look beautiful in my Christmas tree with gold ribbon and gold ball ornaments.
With a diamond drill bit and Mr. Tip help drilling a hole in the very top of each nutcracker’s hat, I was able to covert these into Christmas ornaments.
I purchased a rotary diamond drill bit in Harbor Freight.
To drill a hole in the nutcracker, we used the 3/16″ drill bit that came in the kit, I was in charge to keep spraying water on the drill bit and area he was drilling.
It took some time to drill all 16 nutcrackers, we figured out the more water we applied to the area, the quicker it drilled through the hat.
I washed and dried the nutcrackers before painting them two coats of high gloss white spray paint. I used Black and Decker spray paint.
It took a total of 2 hours for the paint to dry.
I took some Dollar Tree wooden beads, (two per nutcracker), and painted them white as well.
I took some metallic antique gold craft paint painting detailing on the nutcrackers.
I wanted them to match the Dollar General Nutcracker candleholders I created.
With gold twisted thin rope, I thread into the drilled hole and out of the bottom of the nutcracker.
I tied a large knot at the end of the rope making sure the knot didn’t slip out of the drilled hole.
Pulling the rope where the knot hits the drilled hole, I measured and cut the rope 7 ” from the top of the hat.
Thread the rope through two painted beads.
Tied a loop knot with the rope to hang on my Christmas tree. I did this to all 16 nutcrackers.
That’s it.
I love that I was able to convert these nutcrackers into ornaments. I hope I inspired you to try something unthinkable this Christmas season!
