We are bringing you another One Room at a Time Project, joining me this month will be Tammy-Patina and Paint, Niki-Life as a LEO Wife and Teresa-Through a Vintage Door.  We are all doing one room in our home, giving it a refresh.  Kicking this off with our plans and inspirational board.  I will have the girl’s post at the end of my page.

Kitchen Nook Plans and Inspirational Board

I’m so excited because today I’m sharing my breakfast nook refresh plans and mood board. There’s also a video on my Facebook page and my YouTube channel!

What pushed me into giving this space a refresh was the table and chairs.  They are in need of a fresh coat of paint.  It has been almost 7 years when I painted them white, they have some scratches that I am not happy with.

Instead of giving it a fresh coat of Dove white paint, I am going to give a fresh new color to the table, chairs and hutch.

Table and Chairs & Hutch

I have been loving the wood and black cabinets,  I will give the hutch a similar look.

I went to Lowes and picked out the color Dovetail by Sherwin Williams to paint the hutch, table and chairs.  It’s a greyish taupe color which matches all the stained wood and my granite countertops.

Drapes

For the windows, I will be adding another panel to each side of the windows .  Also, the blinds look dingy, I am going to give them a good scrubbing and deal with the dingy strings.  We will see how that goes.

Also, I will do some changes to both the bench area and the other corner of the nook.

The Light Fixture

I have been wanting to change the fixture above the table for a long time, I kept talking myself out of it.  This time I am changing it!

As you can see, the light fixture is on the small size.  Rule of thumb for a light fixture:

♦ Choose a light fixture that is approximately one-half to two-thirds the width of your dining table to ensure even lighting coverage and a visually balanced look. ♦

The warm lightbulbs have to go!  The nook looks dull at night with the warm colored bulbs.  Normally, I use daylight LED bulbs in all my fixtures, this one has been neglected.

If budget allows, I will be replacing the bar light fixtures for a couple of reasons.

  1. One of the glass globes is cracked.
  2. The light fixtures are hung too high above the bar.
  3. They are too small of fixtures for the look I want.

While I have the paint out, I am going to paint my thrift store bar stools.  Love the chairs, but the two woods stained differently, they sit too close to one another not to match.

On a fun note, I always love to start a room with an inspirational board.  I added items that inspire me and place them all together on a mood board to keep reminding me of the goal I am reaching for.

I’m excited to get started on this project. Each Friday I will be sharing what I have been working on in the space until the reveal on Friday, March 1.  First up, will be the hutch!

Be sure to check out the other girl’s plans on refreshing a space in their homes.
