Hello friends!
First off….I want to take a minute and wish all my friends that are mothers, have a mother and who wants to be a mother… a very Happy Mother’s Day weekend!
I am so excited to finally share with you our back porch. Whew! It has been a long wait, hasn’t it?
If you missed my Tuesday’s blog on the projects we did prior to this reveal you can go check that out HERE.
A friendly reminder what our back porch looked like last summer.
I was telling you when we first started this project, we will be purchasing new patio furniture at the end of the season. Our patio furniture is a chocolate brown color.
To spruce up our old furniture we used Krylon Bronze spray paint and gave each piece a fresh new look.
Doesn’t it look better? I like the bronze color we chose.
I also painted plant stands, lanterns and some decor pieces with bronze and copper spray paint.
I upholstered the cushions last year so we will be using them again this season.
Here’s my color palette for the porch; turquoise, green, navy, bronze and copper. I think the copper will tie in with the brick.
The rug I purchased at Lowe’s last year. They still have it in stock, you can check it out HERE if you are interested.
When I saw the rug I knew it would work perfect with the fabric.
With our back porch facing the west we added roll up blinds to the windows. This helps block the sun.
I am debating rather or not I want to hang my drop cloth curtains back up.
Let’s head out to our back porch oasis!
Our porch is an extension of our home. With the warmer weather approaching, I want to make sure that our porch is a cozy space for us to enjoy and entertain.
Do you remember this lantern that I gave a face lift to? I placed it with my little bicycle planter and some lavender.
Here is an up close shot.
On my table, if you have been following me long you know how I like to have my tables all dressed up, the porch table is no different.
I found jute place mats at Dollar General for $3.00 a piece. Normally I wouldn’t spend that much on a place mat for outside, but when I saw how well they would go with everything on our porch, I just had to have them. We needed a few things anyway at Dollar General so I waited to purchase the place mats on a day I could use a $5.00 coupon. Always looking for a little help with the cost. Look at these…..they go perfect, don’t you agree?
On each place mat I took some left over fabric from the pillows and tucked it into a DIY napkin ring. If you want to see how I made the butterfly napkin ring you can go HERE. Next to the napkin I placed a little glass jar that I purchased at the Dollar Tree and added a sprig of faux eucalyptus inside.
The jars I saw in several different colors. They have red, white and blue out now, if you want to take a look HERE they are.
The napkins our made out of outdoor fabric. We will not be using them as napkins just for decorations. I love the little butterflies.
The center of the table I placed a scroll candlestick that I glued a faux boxwood topiary to the top. Instead of a candle I placed an outdoor votive tiki torch. I found the votive tiki at Rite Aid for $4.99, Home Depot also has the jars in a set of three. To check those out you can click HERE.
The wall decor I purchased several years ago at Ross. I just added three little faux boxwood topiaries in containers and placed on the shelf. I made a flag out of left over fabric and tied to the piece.
Look how cute my little bug friend is, his tail end had a glass bulb that lit up, it did until I dropped it. I had to remove the bulb. Isn’t he adorable still?
On each chair I added a pillow. Pillows are so easy to make.
- Cut two squares out, the size you want
- stitch up three of the sides (right sides together)
- turn it right side up
- fill the pillow with filler
- stitch the forth side up
As simple as that. You can hand stitch it also if you don’t have a sewing machine.
I shared my DIY wreath with my Facebook friends a while back. I placed that on the small corner wall above my schefflera plant.
We store the cushions, pillows and the decor pieces in this garden storage bin. Believe it or not it all fits inside besides the rug, we roll that up and place it up in the attic for the winter.
We use the bin for additional seating. I made a little cushion for the top for comfort and added two more pillows.
I know y’all remember my thrift store table! If you have not seen the before and after you can go check that out HERE.
On the bottom shelf I placed my DIY Dollar Tree tray. If you missed that DIY you can go HERE to see how I made that. I placed a wicker lantern, 2 Dollar Tree books, one yellow and one navy and a faux fern plant inside the tray. It isn’t real sturdy, but since it is on the bottom shelf and won’t be moved I think it will be fine. Outside the tray I placed a little succulent plant.
On top I added a navy distressed tray with a peace lily, lace lantern and a cute bird. When we need the bench for additional seating all we need to do is remove the tray.
Here is where you can find me most of the time. I love coming out on the porch to sit on the swing. Now I hear the song in my head….”Just a swinging!”
The hummingbird pillow I purchased him at Lowe’s HERE. It is the perfect accent pillow for the porch. You know me and my pillows!
Lookie here! It’s my painted table that I shared yesterday with you on Facebook. You said to leave the bottom part alone. I have to agree with everyone…I love it!
Above the swing I placed a metal wall plaque. This has changed color three times now. I purchased it from Kohl’s several years ago.
I placed two hanging brackets up on each side of the door so I can hang my lanterns on. You have seen these lanterns several times before, one being on my Christmas tablescape. I added LED outside candles inside.
Before we close, here are a few more photos of our back porch.
What about the floor? I love it!
What tops it all off…our porch is finally screened in! Thanks again to Randy Etheredge and crew at Etheredge Awning and Iron Works. They did an awesome job.
Here is the porch when the sun is going down and the candles are lit.
I love it y’all, I just can’t tell you how much I love it! And considering how tired this girl is, I am going straight out front to work on our front porch so I can share that with you on Tuesday.
I am so happy you came over to see our back porch makeover. If you need me I will be right here sitting on my swing enjoying our porch!

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
