With July 4th coming up I decided for this month’s Pinterest challenge I want to do a holiday piece.  Looking through my Pinterest pins for some inspiration I found several cute July 4th shutter décor.  I am so excited because I have a shutter just sitting up in my attic waiting to be used.  To see my inspirational pin you can click HERE.

Here are the items I will be using with my shutter.

• Shutter
• red, blue and white paint
• burlap July 4th ribbon
• hot glue and glue gun
• paint brush
• star template
• 220 grit sandpaper

Let’s get started!

I took my white paint and painted the sides of my shutter.

I painted the top part and the first three slats blue.

I alternated every three slats red and white, painting the last slate white.

I made a star template and traced it on the blue part of my shutter.  I am painting it white.

Outlined my star with red.

Using 220 grit sandpaper I am distressing the shutter.

Taking a roll of Dollar Tree burlap stars and stripes ribbon and roughing up the edges.

To rough up the edges of your burlap you can check my tutorial here DIY BURLAP TABLE RUNNER.  I didn’t throw the threads away I will be using them next.

I am using my hot glue gun to add the ribbon and threads to the shutter.

I took the bundle of thread and hot glued it down the side of the shutter.

I took the ribbon and hot glued it down on top of the thread.

I made a bow and attached it to the top of the shutter.

It really wasn’t that hard and didn’t take long, drying time took the longest.  I am not too sure where my shutter will be place, but for now it is standing in my son’s flowerbed out front.
