Come on in to one of our guest bedrooms where the refresh is finished. I have shared my goals for the room last week, today I am so excited to be sharing how the room turned out.
Guest Bedroom Refresh
I was so ready to get this room feeling more cohesive with the rest of our home, seriously it was so opposite of the style of our home now. I shopped our home and purchased some budget friendly home decor to place in the space.
Looking back a week ago after I cleared the room, painted the walls and gave a fresh look to the furniture.
GUEST BEDROOM REFRESH PROJECT WEEK 1
I am using the color blue with yellow, which is another color you see in our home.
To bring light in the room I added WHITE SHEERS, I also had in the Master bedroom.
I hung the curtain rod as high as I could above the window.
I placed the freshly painted night stands back in the room but will not be bringing in the lamps. Instead, I purchased a set of LAMP SCONCES.
I found the sconces on Amazon, they can either be hard wired or plugged into an outlet. Since I am not an electrician, I opt to use the plug-in option. I placed them 8 inches from the headboard post and 2 ft above the nightstand for an easy reach.
Don’t worry about the cords, I will be hiding them with cord covers. I purchased a D-Line Cord Cover in Lowe’s, it’s paintable, easy to cut to size and has a self-adhesive backing. Here is how I applied it to the wall.
- Cut the cover to size
- Opened the cover
- Tuck the cord inside
- Snap the cord together
- I removed the adhesive protection backing
- With a level applied the cover to the wall.
I tucked the excess cord inside the baseboard and painted the cord leading to the outlet.
Painted two coats of the wall paint to conceal the cover.
The sconces added a cool element to the room, I just love how they look.
To the opposite side of the room, I added back the glass table with a mirror.
To the corner I brought the chair back.
Decorating the Room
Now that I have all the large pieces in the room, it’s time to decorate the room.
The frame above the bed, I found in Kirkland’s. I love how it pulls all the colors together, I think it was a perfect find.
Since we have the lighting on the wall, I can decorate the small night tables with these mini basket tray I found in Target.
They fit perfectly.
Bringing my small bench in the room, you are seeing a new color to the bench. I added another Target find on the Dollar Spot shelf, the little yellow throw. I placed my little DIY lantern decor on top with a pillow I made from left over material from the chair cushion.
Above the bench I added a frame and two wall hooks. The hooks are a good place for our guest to add their bag or purse.
Decorating the chair was pretty easy, a white throw and pillow, I love the new cushion’s fabric. The wooden cathedral frame was a Kirkland’s find; I added my DIY hydrangea wall hanger to it.
To tie in the colors, I brought in vases to sit on the glass table.
I’m using the bedding I had in the master bedroom 2 summers ago. I love adding layers to the bed, it gives it more of a cozy feeling. I will have a link to everything in the room that I was able to link up.
The room is finish and I can’t tell you how happy I am with how it looks. It’s brighter and flows with the other rooms in our home, which was my goal!

BEFORE
AND NOW….
I am loving the room transformation; I just love this room so much! The bedding and curtains worked out so well in the room, and all the freshly painted items made it look ten times better.
Thank you for coming over today and taking a look at the guest bedroom’s new look. Let me know what you think of the changes I made and if there is anything in the room that inspires you to do in your home.
Next up will be some refreshing in the master bedroom, me and the girls will be doing another room for the One Room at a Time series, so stay tuned for that.

Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
