Hello friends!
Before we get started on today’s DIY I wanted to mention why I blog, mostly for all of my new friends! Which by the way, I am so grateful for your friendship! Seriously!!!! The reason why I blog is to share how you can decorate your home like all the inspirational photo we see on Pinterest, Instagram and in magazines on a budget. IF only we had the extra money to go out and buy the pre-made items, but I am cheap frugal when it comes to buying decor pieces for my home. Maybe it’s because I love a great DIY and the feeling I get when I see the end results of my projects or it could be as often as I change my home’s decor style I just can’t see paying a lot for home decor unless it is something that can be used for any decor style. I know that some of you are not able to create or do the DIYs that I do, so I will try my hardest to share where you could purchase similar items that I am sharing. I hope this helps and I am so happy that you love my creations. Thanks again for supporting my blogging journey. I hope I give you inspiration! That’s all I want to do!
Back to the DIY today!
I am having fun with the Dollar Tree wreaths that I stocked up on. I tried finding them online to share with you but they are not online to purchase. I picked up 3 when visiting my son and I found 4 more when I was visiting my parents at a Dollar Tree near their home. I am happy that I have them for future DIY projects.
I have a small corner in our kitchen area. I normally place a picture frame to hide a phone jack that is in the center of the wall. I painted the jack cover the same color of the wall paint, but still it is an eye sore. Here is the wall I am talking about.
I saw this adorable wall decor using wooden letters H – M – E and a little round wreath on Pinterest! It would work perfectly for this wall. The wreath would hide the wall jack. Perfect!
Let’s get started!
First thing I am going to do is to make my wreath using a faux eucalyptus bundle pick. For my friends that do not want to make a wreath I found one HERE at Hobby Lobby for $19.99. My tip for you, wait until they run 50% off or use your 40% coupon.
If you want to make your own wreath with me, below are the items you will need:
- 1 large eucalyptus bundle – I had mine for several years. You will need a large bundle, I found something similar HERE at Hobby Lobby for $3.99 regular price. You might want to buy two or three to have enough twigs.
- grapevine wreath – HERE is one similar at Hobby Lobby for $2.99 regular price
- scissors or wire snips
- hot glue and a glue gun
I took the eucalyptus bundle and cut into a single twig.
I started hot gluing the twigs to the inner part of the wreath. Working all the way around.
I placed hot glue to the end I cut off the bundle and placed it on the wreath.
I started gluing the twigs to the rest of the wreath making sure I fill in all the gaps.
Here is my eucalyptus wreath.
Now to the HOME Wall Decor:
I saw letters already painted and distressed at Hobby Lobby for $27.99 each (they are running 50% off this week). HERE for my friends that would prefer to buy the letters already painted.
For my friends that want to paint and distressed their letters with me, below are the items you will need.
- H – M – E lettering from Hobby Lobby. I found them in the crafting section. HERE are the lettering I will be using. They run $2.49 each. When I purchased the letters they were 50% off….I never buy at Hobby Lobby full price. They run 50% on items every other week. So if they are not 50% off this week wait until next week. OR if you don’t want to wait, use a 40% coupon. You can only use that for one item.
- brown spray paint and white chalk paint
- saw tooth picture hangers – HERE
- E6000
- paint brush
- small wreath of your choice or the one you made with me earlier
- 120 grit sand paper
I will be adding two saw tooth picture hanger to the back of each letter. I used E6000 and attached the bracket to the back. I measured to find the center and centering the bracket using my mark. Let the glue dry.
TIP: When using E6000 use a dab of hot glue along with the E6000. The hot glue dries a lot quicker and will hold the E6000 in place while that dries.
Now to the painting.
I first spray painted the letters with brown spray. I spray painted two coats.
After the brown paint has dried I painted the brown letters two coats of white chalk paint.
I took 120 grit sand paper and lightly distressed the letters.
Now to place the wall decor on the wall.
First, I placed the wreath on the wall. I wanted the wreath to cover the wall jack. I will center the letters with the wreath.
From the wreath I measured to make sure each letter is spaced evenly.
I am so happy with how it hides the phone jack.
And….remember my cotton bloom and lamb’s ear wreath? If you missed that DIY you can go HERE to see how I made that. It would work too!
Here is a boxwood wreath to give you an idea that any type of wreath would look great.
I plan to make seasonal wreaths with the Dollar Tree grapevine wreaths that I stocked up on. They are the perfect size.
Love this wall decor! I know that my letters are not as thick as the ones you can buy at Hobby Lobby already painted, but honestly I think it looks great!
I hope this DIY home wall decor gives you the inspiration to decorate a small wall in your home!
