FARMHOUSE SIGN FROM AN OLD SHELF

Today’s blog I am going to use a wooden shelf I had out in the shed to repurpose it into two cute Valentine’s signs.  It only took two cuts in my board outside and the rest I did in my craft room.

The supplies you will need:

  • 2 pieces of wood – 10″ x 15″ and 10″ x 22″
  • paint (color of your choice)
  • print out of the wording you want to place on your board
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • paint brushes
  • sanding block

Simple BE MINE Farmhouse Sign Tutorial

First, cut your board into two pieces; chose your own size.  Mine are 10″ x 15″ and 10″ x 22″.

Give your boards 2 coats of paint.  I am using Plaster by Waverly.

To avoid cutting a frame for my sign, I am painting faux frame to my signs.  I measured around the edge of the entire board, 1 inch.

Taking Elephant Waverly chalk paint, I painted two coats to the outer part of my lines including the edges.

Once the gray had time to dry, using the same brush I painted the Plaster chalk paint with, I dry brushed the grey part of my sign.

I printed out a saying for both of my signs.  BE MINE.

To add the letters to my board I am doing the old school carbon paper to my printout, I colored the back of my lettering, center the wording on my sign pressing hard, I traced over the letters.

I painted my letters with the Elephant chalk paint.

Gave both signs a light sanding.

Wipe down both signs with a damp cloth.  That’s it!
