Here’s the tutorial….

Step 1

Taking the poster board and the mat of your frame.  Trace the outer and inner part of the mat onto your poster board.  This will give you your work space.

Put aside your mat for now, cut the outer line from your poster board.  This will be your back ground of your frame.  The inner square is the work space where we will be adding the hearts.

Step 2

Place your heart template in the inner space to see how many hearts it will take going across and down.  My space will take 35 hearts total.

I cut out 35 red hearts and 5 book page hearts.  Making sure the book page hearts are fully covered with words.

Step 3

Bend your hearts in the center by taking a piece of your poster board, center the edge from the top V of your heart to the bottom point of your heart.  Fold over and press.  Do this to all your red hearts.

Step 4

To line up your hearts.

  • Find the middle of your inner space.  Place a little mark in the center,  place your heart’s center to the center mark you just made.  [My space is 10 ½ inches.  I placed a mark at 5 ¼].  Use your tacky glue and glue the center of the back of the heart onlyYou want the sides free and not glued.
  • Place a heart at the beginning and end of the inner lines.  Touching the edge of your heart to the line.  Find the center in between the hearts and place one heart in both spaces.  Glue down your hearts.

  • Place 6 more hearts going down the edge line.  Spacing them ½ inch apart.  Starting from the bottom point of the heart to the Top V of the heart.  Gluing as you go.

  • Spacing the hearts with a DIY 1/2 inch spacer.  I cut 1/2 inch piece from my poster board and bent it in half.  This is what I will use to keep the space the same through out the rows.
  • Gluing down the entire book page heart.  I am doing my book page heart pattern going down the 4th row every other heart.

  • Let the glue dry.  Once it is dry put your page in your frame.

I placed my design in a frame.  I just love how this DIY turned out.  You could cut out different shapes such as Easter eggs, flags, pumpkins and even Christmas trees.  Or make white hearts and use it for an every day wall decor.
