Just like that and we’re in week 3 of the One Room at a Time!! Let’s recap: week 1 was a preview of what the room looks like and my plans on what I want to do in the space. Week 2: I hosted a DIY Challenge which I shared HOW TO SKIM COAT A WALL and on the week 2 update I shared how I BLEACHED THE VANITY CABINET.

WEEK 3 – UPDATE ON THE HALF BATHROOM | ONE ROOM AT A TIME
The Vanity
My Plan A for the vanity cabinet was to bleach the wood and add a clear poly topcoat only, but the cabinet doors turned darker instead of lighter. Scratched Plan A, I turned to Plan B, I created a mango wood look to the cabinet. I love Plan B!!
The inspirations was my Kirkland’s wooden tray for the cabinet. I think I nailed it!!
The Walls
Next up was the bottom of the bathroom walls. Plan A was to add board and batten, but after much thought of the work needed to achieve the best look. I decided the easier route, adding beadboard instead. And again, I love Plan B!!
Before adding the wallpaper, I painted the crown molding with a high gloss white.
Now to tackle the peel and stick wallpaper. I have to say, the skim coat I added to the walls worked great to smooth the rough surface.
We have a problem Houston! The plates won’t fit now with the new thickness of the beadboard. UGH!
Found the solution, SPACERS!! So easy to install, I did it myself after Mr. Tip made sure the power was off to both the light switch and plug in.
I felt like I was playing with Legos. You snap them together in the thickness you need, I used three of the spacers for each light switches and plug-in.
Problem solved!
As you can see it was a busy week, I have a few more things to finish up.
Things to do before reveal:
- paint beadboard (not sure if I will paint it white or a color)
- install light fixture and mirror
- reinstall the toilet and caulk around the base
- add the drawers and doors to the cabinet
- clean the room
- decorate

Thanks Teresa, I am glad to share some progress other than prep work. 🙂
Good grief you got so much done this week!!! And it all looks so good. Absolutely beautiful!!!!
I would have had more but being sick in the end of the weekend took me down a day or so. Still have those little things to get done which sometimes take longer than the larger jobs. 🙂 Thanks Tammy!
