The theme of this month’s Pin challenge is anything Christmas. This is probably my favorite PIN challenge of the year. For this Pin challenge I am going to work on a Joy garland banner to hang on the window up on my mantel. Here is the pin I am using for inspiration, METAL JOY BANNER, I am going to make mine out of scrap wood.

I purchased the wooden letter at Dollar General.
I took the letter O to measure how large I needed to make the flag part of the banner. Making the pattern I took a piece of copy paper and drew the pattern I wanted.
Tracing my pattern on to a piece of underlayment I had from previous projects. Using a circular saw I cut three flags.
I marked at each top corner where I need to drill holes to thread the twine through.
I gave my items two coats of paint, the three flags with Waverly chalk paint in the color of Plaster and the three letters with Apple Barrel paint in the color of Cardinal red.
After the paint dried I grabbed my liquid nails and attached the letters to the flags.
To make my garland I am using twine and red wooden beads. I measured the distance I needed my banner to hang on the window and cut the twine about 10 inches longer.
At one end of the twine I made a loop and a knot large enough to keep the twine from slipping through the bead.
In between each flag I placed 6 beads. I slipped the twine in the front hole of the flag and thread it through the other hole from the back. This hides the twine.
After I placed the last 6 beads I made another loop and knot to finish the garland. That’s it!
Come back tomorrow where I share my full Christmas mantel and hearth with you.

Now, let’s see what the other hosts have created ⇓⇓
Decorating our home on a budget is my thrill. I think a home can look beautiful without breaking the bank. Your home should bring the best out of you and make you feel happy. You should smile every time you enter your home. 🙂
It’s gorgeous! I love the beads in the gaps, they really finish it off beautifully.
Thank you Julie. I love anything with beads. It dresses it up.
Such a pretty way to reuse scrap wood in to something so useful and great for the holidays. I pinned this to try out from your pin.
Donna I am so happy you are going to try the banner. I love how it looks. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out. Thank you.
Wow that turned out nice! Love the beads and the (aptly named) cardinal red letters. Very attractive.
Thanks Lydia. I love how the garland looks up on my window. It brought the perfect touch to the mantel.
Using Liquid Nails to glue the letters on is a good idea. I will have to remember that in the future.
I wanted to make sure the letters wouldn’t fall off, especially since it will be over the fireplace. Thank you so much Kristie!
This banner is really cute! I love the red beads! Pinning to my Cheerful Christmas board!
Thank you so much. I always love red during the holidays. Thanks for pinning. Happy Holidays!
That turned out great! I just made my first banner ever (out of paper) for our mantle this fall for Thanksgiving and have been thinking of making some kind of banner for the holidays too. Pinned.
I was thinking about making this out of paper as well, but when I say the wooden letters I thought about making it out of wood. Thank you!
Generally I’m not a banner person. Love this with beads and the use of wood.
Cindy
I don’t normally use banners either Cindy. But this one looks more of a decor piece up on my window than a banner. Thanks Cindy.
Your banner is so pretty. I really like the wood beads on the string. It looks perfect for the mantel.
Thanks Jenny. I love how it looks on the window and so happy how it turned out. Happy Holidays!
