I have only a couple more days before we have the baby shower, I need to finish all the baby shower preparation by then !!  I am working on the cake backdrop right now.  I love the flower wall décor I have been seeing.  What a perfect craft for this Pinterest Challenge. Scrolling through Pinterest to find some “How to tutorials”.  To be honest, I have seen several videos on how to make them.  The tutorials goes so fast I have to keep rewinding to understand each step.   Taking what I gathered from the videos I watched I hope I made an easier tutorial for you to follow.

I went to Hobby Lobby and grabbed a pack of scrapbook paper when they were running the paper half off.

I traced all the patterns out on the scrapbook paper and cut then all out.  There are 6 patterns cutting 8 pieces per pattern besides the last one you will cut 12.  You will also want to make an octagon base.  I just made a 6 inch square and cut the corners off.

NOTE:  If you want to make larger or smaller flowers, use the same pattern but enlarge or decrease the size.  When making larger flowers you will need to make more of each pattern and smaller flowers you will not have to use all the patterns.  Make as many or less as you want for your flower. 🙂

Plug your hot glue gun in because we will be using it pretty much for this DIY.  Placing the octagon in front of you and all 8 of #1 pattern.

Preparing the petal

Cut 3 inches in the center bottom of the petal

Add a line of hot glue to one edge of the cut and place the unglued side on top of the hot glue line.   Take something to roll the petal top edge, roll 1/4 down the petal.  This gives the petal a shape.

Taking the 8 petals of pattern #1 and glue down to each side of the octagon.

When laying the next row glue down between the two bottom petals.

Do the above steps for patterns 1 through 5. We will be doing more curling to #6.

After we finished gluing pattern 5 down this is what your flower should look like.

With pattern #6 we will be curling the whole entire petal.  After curling glue the center bottom like normal and place in the center using all 12 petals.

This is what your peony will look like or maybe even better!

MAKING THE LEAF

  • Taking one 12×12 evergreen scrapbook paper, a pair of scissors, pen or pencil and a zigzag pair of scissors.
  • Cut your paper in half
  • Fold one half in half (does this make sense)?
  • Cut a leaf shape out of the folded sheet
  • Trim you leaf shape with your zigzag scissors

Draw the vines on your leaf

To get your leaf to have the indentations, we will be folding the lines we just made.  This is how I did my leaf.  I folded from the center of the leaf to the edge.  I did not fold down straight across.

This is what it should look like.

We have our flower and now the leaves.  Here is what mine looks like.

I will be making different sizes and colors for the baby shower.  Here is just two I made so far.

You will have to check out my feed for the baby shower reveal.  It’s this Saturday!  To see all of the Baby Shower Decorations you can view here → SHOWER DECORATIONS

    1. You ought to make some with her. A fun project and a great time to be with your mom. Or at least that’s what I would love for my daughter to do. My mom isn’t craft friendly or I would do it with my mom. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Alexandra!

  1. These are gorgeous! I’ve seen a lot of large paper flowers, but I don’t think I’ve seen a peony. Perfect for a baby shower or sping decor decoration. Pinned.

    1. They were a huge hit at the shower Erlene. I am so happy your monthly challenge pushed me to make these. I was going to buy them instead. Thanks for hosting! Happy Monday.

  2. I love how these turned out, Terrie, and kudos to you for making your own pattern! I’m planning to try my hand at tissue paper flowers soon, so these peonies are inspiring. Pinned!

  3. Those are perfect decorations for a shower. I love the colors and how big they are. They demand attention just like real peonies do. Best wishes for your shower.

  4. Terrie,

Amazing, how these look like Peony. You’re putting your heart and soul into making a beautiful baby shower.

Good luck getting everything finished. One loved baby!
