For my Pinterest inspiration this month is a set of sconces, I wanted something I can place on a bare wall in our Master bedroom.  I went on Pinterest and scrolled for an easy and cute DIY project, I found the perfect project.  I am going to make two Mason Jar Sconces.  I found a lot of pins from Etsy but not a lot of DIY tutorials.  I did come to Woyhome site that has a lot of different styles of the jar sconce.  You can go check out the site HERE.

Like always for the friends that wants to make your own Mason Jar sconces I will share the tutorial on how I made mine and here is a place where those friends that would rather buy a set already made PRE-MADE MASON JAR SCONCES.

Let’s get started making our sconces!

Here are the supplies you will need:

• Two Quart size Mason Jars with lids (I am using some old ones that I had on hand)
• Chalk Paint (I am using Ivory)
• Jute Twine or rope (I am using rope)
• Burlap material or stain for the boards
• Two 1″x 8″x 16″ boards
• Two hooks or knobs ( found mine at Hobby Lobby)
• scissors and Staple gun (if using material)

prepare your boards

Cut your board to size.  If you want to stain or paint your board do that now.  I am going to cover mine with burlap material.  I am still using the same roll I have been using for all my Easter burlap DIYS.  You can check out all the burlap DIYS I have done recently here MY BURLAP PROJECTS.

• Since I am on a burlap kick right now, I covered my boards with burlap.  I cut my material 3 inches larger than the board.

• Placed the board on top of the cut out material

• Stapling the burlap to the board I folded the edge and stapled.

Painting your jars

• I am painting my Mason jars and the lids (make sure you do not add the seal).  You can paint or leave them clear.  That’s the best thing about DIYs, you make it specifically the way you want it. 🙂 For the first coat I found that using a makeup sponge when applying the first coat of paint is best, using a brush leaves a lot of brush marks.  After the first coat you can use a brush, sanding lightly between coats.  I gave my jars 3 coats of paint.

• You can use Jute twine or rope.  Start with a 9 inches tail.  I will be calling the roll of rope part as the working end.

• Wrapping the working end around your jar and tying the ropes in a knot

• With the working end wrap around the jar one more time.

• Taking the working end and go around the knot.

• Cut the working end, leaving 12 inches.

• Wrapping the cut working end to the other side of the jar, tying a knot by looping around one of the wrapped ropes.

• This is what it should look like

• Find the center, measure down 2 inches from the top of your board.  Secure the picture hook.

• Placing your board on a flat surface
• Find the center and measured down 1 1/2 inches from the top.  I placed my knob where I marked and centered
• attached them to the board with wood screws

I found my knobs at Hobby Lobby 50% off.  They were a yellowish color so I painted them Ivory and distressed.

Measuring your rope/twine to hang

• Place your jar on your board under your knob.  I measured the bottom of the jar 1 1/2 inches to the bottom
• Tying a knot in the rope/twine to slip on to the knob with no slack

I am using Eucalyptus picks to add to my jars.

• Hang your jars on your hook or knob

• Place your picks in the jars

Hang them to the wall to enjoy!

I will be changing the picks out as the season changes.  How neat is this?  I love the look and diffidently love the burlap with the ivory.  Are you going to make you a set?  Don’t just pin it, MAKE it!
