When it comes to finding my inspiration and color theme, it’s easy, but when it comes to picking out my ribbon, not so easy! I used to stand in the Christmas ribbon aisle like a deer staring in headlights. Now, it is fun picking out my ribbon, I have two tips on picking out ribbon for you today.
Before I get to my ribbon tips, joining me on Decorate with Us | Christmas Season 2024 are Tammy Patina and Paint and Teresa Through a Vintage Door, they will be sharing how they decorate their homes for Christmas as well. I will have their Christmas Post for today at the bottom of my page.
Tips on how to mix and match Christmas ribbon
There are so many options, it can make you lose your mind when trying to find the combination you want to use for your Christmas decorations! If I can take one stressful thing off your list this holiday, it would be sharing how easy it can be picking out your ribbon.
By using 2 short and simple tips, you’ll be able to pick out your combination ribbons easier.
Tip One – Pick out your “themed” ribbon.
The theme ribbon should have 3 to all of the colors you are wanting to use.
For my theme, nutcrackers, I am using this Homeford Christmas Nutcracker I found on Amazon. I love the detailing on the navy wired ribbon with both green and red nutcrackers and the gold detailing. It has all the colors I want to showcase this Christmas season.
Tip 2 – Pick two accent colors from the themed ribbon.
No matter what type of print you pick, if the two ribbons contain one of the colors on the themed ribbon, they will all go together.
My first pick was a Poinsettias Glitter Canvas Ribbon Wired Edge. All three colors are in my theme color.
Second accent ribbon is the MAYREEL Green and Gold Metallic Diamond Lattice Ribbon.
Pairing two different prints together can be a no-brainer. For an easy combination, start with a small print and then pick a second print with one of those same colors to pair with it. In my combination, my red poinsettia ribbon has green and gold print, and my second ribbon is a green ribbon with a gold lattice pattern.
My ribbon combination works perfectly together. I will tone the patterns by using a solid gold netting ribbon.
The 2 tips are a great starting point, but it doesn’t have to end there. Don’t be afraid to mix and match ribbon, you never know what they will look like together, you might just end up loving the combination.
I have a video for you to watch too sharing my Christmas theme, colors and a shopping haul on my purchases as I planned for my Christmas decorating season.
