The time has come when we finally share the reveal of the guest bedroom.
Welcome to One Room at a Time – Guest Bedroom | Toy Room Reveal!
Today, Tammy Patina and Paint and I will be giving you the tour of the guest bedroom refresh, for me it’s the multi-purpose room. 🙂 I will have Tammy’s guest room reveal linked at the bottom of my page.
This refresh was long time coming. The last time I changed the room was when our daughter left home for college and took her furniture with her. Back then I made it into a guest room. Now, being grandparents, we need to focus on not only the occasional visitor, but to our granddaughter’s regular visits. I wanted to design a space that welcomes guests when it needs to, but doubles as a playroom the rest of the time.
Let me remind you of what the room looked like prior to this reveal. To read the beginning of the refresh you can read the entire post here:
GUEST BEDROOM – ONE ROOM AT A TIME
The last couple of weeks I had to get creative, when it came to finding a solution on turning this room not only into a comfortable room for guests, but a playground for Kehlani, it was challenging.
I had three important issues I wanted to address; do you remember what they were? To brighten up the room, make it cozy and to organize all the toys. I think I have completed my tasks.
How I brightened up the room.
Before changing the room, it had warm lighting which made the room a yellowish glow and very dull. The walls were a dark paint color which made the room look smaller and darker.
The walls have been painted with Even Better Beige by Behr, the lighter paint color helped trick the eyes to make the room look larger and brighter. I also changed out the existing light bulbs to LED light bulbs, daylight, now the room doesn’t look dingy.
Changed out the curtains to linen panels, gave the room privacy, but allows light to shine through. To save money I spray painted the existing curtain rod gold.
How I cozied up the room.
The bedding, although pretty, it’s not the right style for the new look I want for the room.
Changing out the bedding to light and airy was a goal of mine from the start. I always love a neutral base with lots of layers.

How I organized the toys.
The room felt so crowd with all the toys lined up in the room. The toys need to be organized and placed in the room with style in mind.
Sorting out the toys in groups “plays with often and not so much“, I managed to arrange and organize all the toys. To trick the eye from having toys lined up against the wall, I placed the chest of drawers to be the first view in the room.
Placing smaller toys in baskets and drawers helps keep the clutter out of sight.
I placed all the floor toys in playing sections away from the doorway. Placing them on the back wall, behind the chest of drawers and bed.
The other projects in the room.
Painted furniture
To check out the previous blog post on all the furniture I painted you can review here:
Stenciled a wall.
To the back wall behind the bed, I used the Large Moorish Trellis Stencil from ROYAL DESIGN STUDIO STENCIL. The wall gave the room a pop of pattern and interest.
Revamp decor pieces.
I had a couple of items I wanted to change for the rooms new look. Mirrors I found in Hobby Lobby on the clearance shelf. REVAMP MIRRORS
I painted the existing lamps to create a lighter look on the nightstands. LAMP REVAMP
Built a bench.
To give our guest a place to place their belongings on and to hide the storage basket I built a bench. I love the bench for many reasons; bringing the wood tones from the mirror and headboards to the end of the bed and two, it just looks so darn cute at the end of the bed.
Decorate the room.
The fun part of the project, decorating the room. Placing the cherry on top of the sundae, is all the decorations in the room.

This set up is perfect for us: it holds all of Kehlani’s toys and is pretty enough to be a comfortable stay for our guest.

The multi-purpose guest bedroom reveal is impressive. The clever use of space and stylish decor choices make it a versatile and inviting room. Thanks for sharing this creative and functional design.
You took a room with a split personality and made it whole! Love it! You know where to place things to draw the eye away from certain areas. Very pretty as well as functional room!
Terrie your guest room transformation is truly amazing! Not only did you make a room that your guests will love and be so comfy in, you made a functional space for a playroom. It truly takes great talent to be able to mesh two totally different rooms and make them beautiful. Great job!!!!!
