NEVER TOO FAR!

Hello everyone!

Even though I don’t live near you I can still help you!  Distance doesn’t keep me from helping friends decorate their homes.   I have been helping my new found friends all over the world and been enjoying the time spent with my new friends.  The procedure is done online and pictures….a lot of pictures. ha!  One of my friends, Sharie, even took me shopping with her (by phone).   Crazy what we can do now a days!

I thought it would be fun to share with you the before and after photos of some friend’s area that I helped decorate and how we went through the process online.  I have been helping several friends, but today I will be sharing only two.  They live hundreds of miles from where I live, but yet I was with them every step of the way.  How fun is that?

I am not a professional or have a degree in interior design or claim to be, but if you like my style and need help achieving a decoration in your home please let me know, maybe I can help you with it! 🙂

When I do help online I like to ask a few questions to know the person I am working with.  Here are some of the things I need to know before getting started.

  1. finding out what your style is – I will probably ask for you to take a picture of your favorite area in your home and send it to me.
  2. If you have an inspirational image or photo of what you are wanting.  We will share inspirational photos until you fall in love with something.
  3. What are the colors you want to go with
  4. The budget amount
  5. Do you want to buy it all or do you like to do DIYs

After that we are ready to have some fun!

Let me show you how I help my friends decorate!

Here is my friend, Sharie’s dining room.

I just helped Sharie designed the buffet table and wall decor on the right and the dining table’s decor.  Now it is time to do something to the wall with the octopus canvas. 🙂  Sharie loves the canvas print but agrees that it doesn’t fit her decor in the room now.

First thing I asked her to do is remove the canvas, (you know I like to start things with a clean slate).  Second was to shop her home.  She really couldn’t think of what she had at home that we could use for the main item on the wall.  I sent her a couple of inspiration photos to see what caught her eye.  When I sent her the picture below, she sent back a message  “I do have a chalk board”.

I asked her to send me a photo of it.  She sent me the photo of her chalkboard.  She said she didn’t think about it when I asked her if she had anything large to use on the wall.

I said Sharie….. what????  Anyway.  She brought it into the room and placed it up on the wall.

There is the focal point. 🙂  Now to find more!  She liked the galvanized planter idea.  I kept on showing her some inspirational photos.  We figured out what Sharie wanted the wall to look like.   Now to make a list of things she needed.

The next day she was going to take a trip to Hobby Lobby to see what she could find.

Here is her list of things she needed.

  1. wreath
  2. two planters
  3. greenery for the planters
  4.  milk bottles and crate
  5. coal bucket
  6. flowers for bottles and bucket

Here are the inspirational photos I gave her to hunt for.  *I also tagged the photos below with the link in case you would like to order them for yourself.  Most of them are on sale this week.  They were all found at Hobby Lobby.

Here is the procedure we did.  She goes to the department, finds the one closest to the inspirational photo, takes a photo and sends it to me.  We talk about it and I send back my opinion.

We do the same thing on all items she finds.

She gets home and the fun starts.  Let’s just say she takes a lot of pictures and does the leg work and I take the picture and draw what needs to be done and send them back with an explanation.  Here is an example of what I am talking about.

First up she hangs the wreath.  Each step she takes a photo and sends it to me.  I know….I said a lot of photos. 🙂  I send back a photo of what I need her to do.  For example  The wreath wasn’t centered.  I know….I told her I am OCD to bare with me.  She was a tro0per and went along with every little step.

Every step she would take a photo and send it to me.  I would draw on the photo and then explain what I wanted her to do.   I am no artist but it helped her to understand what I wanted.

And to finish the wall she had her neighbor stencil the word Welcome on the board.

Just in case you forgot what it looked like before.

What it looks like now.

Next is my friend Alison.

She had all of her items already purchased.  She wanted to design her mantel area.

Here are all the items she wanted to use.

She has a lot of nice items, doesn’t she?  I have the very same candlesticks and love them!

First thing was clear everything off. 🙂

Told her to take the window frame and hang it in the center of the mantel.

I should of told her the height, we had to lower it.

She wanted the tobacco baskets together.  I suggested to change them around to keep the eye flowing..  Placing the longer basket next to the frame with the other one going long ways out to the end.

Now making the setting even on the other side we used the candle sticks.

The side where the candlesticks are placed, still looks a little bare so I had her add the wooden sign under the frame next to the tallest candlestick.

We need to add the fillers now.  The items that we didn’t use yet were too small for the fillers.  I asked if she could shop her home for something that would fit in front of the basket giving her a photo of what I was talking about.  She shopped her house and sent me a photo of her basket of greenery.  Awesome.. great size and shape for what we need.

I sent her a photo of a drawing where we needed to fill in.  We kept on shopping around her home.  She would take a picture of things she had.    Once we found the items she placed them on her mantel where I marked.

Remember what all she had?

What we did with it.

It was nice getting to know my new friends and helping them design something in their homes.
