ROOM CHALLENGE REVEAL! MASTER BEDROOM UPDATE

Happy Friday friends!

Are you like I am?  Get new curtains and now we need to paint the room, paint the room and now we need new bedding….and so on.  That’s what just happened in this room.

I am joining in with a group of other DIYer’s, taking an area in our home that needs some TLC.  Our master bedroom’s TV armoire wall was missing just that.  Since I was in the room decorating, I decided to add, change and remove decor in the room.  Funny how this challenge turned out like a row of dominoes that falls when pushing only one domino?  I went from just decorating the wall to decorating the whole room. 🙂

I am so excited to be sharing this challenge with you.  You’ll find the before and after photos of the girls that participated in the challenge with me at the end of my post.  So you can see how they styled their challenge areas!

The area I want to focus on is the TV cabinet wall, but I just couldn’t have a new decorated wall and not touch the other part of the room!  I thought since I am in the room designing I might as well makeover the whole room….right? 🙂

I’ll show you my challenge wall in a bit, but first, let me show you how I updated the rest of the room.   For those of you that haven’t tour my Master Bedroom back in October you can click HERE to take the tour.

My painted striped wall is currently my favorite part of the room.  I kept the wall bare because I still like to have the wall as the focal point of the area.

I changed up the decor on both night stands.  Moving things from one place to the another.

Before –

Now –

I purchase the little floral arrangement from TjMaxx.

Before –

Chest of drawers

Now –

I decided to add my Blessed sign to the wall.  This has been in about every room in my home, but now it found it’s home.  You will notice my two DIY embroidery hoop orbs!  If you missed how I made those you can click HERE to check that out.

Before –

Bed tray

Now –

I added two books, candle and a lamb’s ear plant.  I shopped my home for these items.

Before –

Over to my dresser.  I really have been wanting to change this decor up for awhile now.

Now –

I am extremely happy with it now!

I decided to remove everything off the dresser.  I took apart the hydrangea arrangement that was once on my night stand.  I added the 3 hydrangea, 4 cream botanic artistry wisteria spray, faux branches and 4 green water drop spray.  I placed the stems in the small ginger jar and added the water drop picks around the lip of the jar to create a moss look.

I moved the gold metal orb that once was on the chest of drawers to the dresser sitting it next to the arrangement.

You remember the candle sticks right?  If you don’t you can go HERE to see my thrift store find that I turned into these gems!

Now the feature wall!!! My challenge entry. 🙂

Before –

Now can you see why I had to enter this wall in the challenge?  Pitiful isn’t it? 🙁

After –

I just love it!  Let me break each decor section down for you.  I added a little throw to the door.

The top of the TV armoire.

The basket I purchased at Hobby Lobby.  I just love the metal decorative binding on it.  The flowers were also purchased at Hobby Lobby.  I used 2 white queen Anne’s lace bush and 2 cream blossom & cherry blooms and just placed them in the basket.  I sat a green grass sphere to the front side of it.

Don’t you just hate it when someone says, “I just placed the stems in”?  It isn’t that easy, so I won’t lie to you.  I took the 4 bundles and mixed them together.  I sat it in the basket and played with it for a long time to get it the way I wanted it.  It wasn’t just placing it in the basket, I took time arranging it.

Next to the basket I added my large ginger jar.   I found both ginger jars years ago at TjMaxx.  They are great decor piece to have, I have painted them several colors prior to them being distressed white.

Behind the ginger jar I leaned the frame up against the wall.  I painted it to coordinate with the basket.

To the side of the frame, I placed my special frame with the print my dear friend gave me.  I just love it! ♥   How could it not go into my room?  It fits beautifully!  The frame was a thrift store find that I painted and distressed before placing the print inside.

I wanted something to give the whole vignette character so I grabbed my hat that I purchased at Cato’s…I have never wore, (why do I buy things like this?  Oh, I know… to decorate with)!  I sat two books and the hat in front of the print.  Ta-da!  I think it looks cute!

Now to the wall.  It was so bare!   With the doorway to the master bath I couldn’t put any type of furniture against the wall because I really didn’t want to be stubbing my toe or worse my husband stubbing his!

I shared the DIY Chevron Arrows on Tuesday.  If you missed that you can go HERE to check that out.  I honestly think this is my BEST and favorite DIY to date!

Since I used the sawtooth picture hanger, I just had to put a small nail in the wall for each arrow! I spaced the arrows about 7″ apart.

I leaned my shutter in the corner of the cabinet and wall.  I have had this shutter on my front porch during the fall and I have cut it in half to placed on my mantle, I connected the two pieces with brackets to make it one shutter again.

I painted it green and distressed.  I didn’t want a bold color so I played with the green off the flowers in the basket to keep the eyes moving.

The little lantern was another thrift store fine.  I shared that on Wednesday with everyone.  I placed a cream candle inside to give it some contrast.

I had this basket already in the room I just placed it in front of the shutter.

Last few photos of my Master Bedroom update!

So what do you think?  I know it was suppose to be only a one area challenge, but I just couldn’t help myself. 🙂  I am happy with the results and especially happy with the amount I spent.  Here is the break down:

  • Hobby Lobby – Flower Stems (12 stems) and Basket = $65.40
  • TjMaxx – Floral Arrangement = $7.62
  • Thrift Store – Lantern – Candle Sticks – Picture Frame = $7.97
  • DIY – Chevron Arrows – Embroidery Hoop Orbs – $5.63

Grand Total cha-ching……..$86.62!

Seriously….. that’s all I spent to revamp the whole room.  Yes…I had a lot of the items on hand, but that’s the great thing about shopping your home first!  Shopping your home and don’t be shy doing DIY home decor projects!  By doing both you will be saving big bucks!

Here are my sweet friends that joined in on the fun challenge.

Sharie Fatseas – sharing her Laundry room wall makeover

Elizabeta Andric Sharp – sharing her Laundry room door makeover.

Rebecca Gresham – sharing her patio back porch makeover

Krystal Brown – sharing her basement to a bedroom makeover

I think their challenges were amazing and so inspirational.  I had such a great time working with these sweet girls on this challenge.  We are talking about future challenges.  YAY!

  1. I thought I missed this & I did. Your challenge wall looks absolutely great. The arrows make it a statement wall. Along with all of your other arrangements it is a huge success…!!

    1. Awe! Thank you so much Lucy! I love the arrows, they were super easy and so inexpensive to make. They do make it a fun wall. I love it! The whole room looks totally different with just that wall finally being done!

  2. It looks so nice, Terrie !!

You had to spend a lot of time doing it, but it is beautiful. If anyone can do it ===you can !!

    Love you

    1. Thank you so much! I had fun preparing for the challenge. Time….well each DIY and shopping took time but placing it all together was not as long as placing flowers in the containers. That probably was the longest time spent. ha! Thanks again my sweet lady! Love you right back!
