This is my first Fall DIY this year!! If you want to learn how to create these two Rustic wooden pumpkins keep on reading, if you would rather buy the two, check out Hobby Lobby’s Driftwood Pumpkins.
I am joining Tammy Patina and Paint and Corine Junk to Gem on Facebook with a fun Fall craft video. The two pumpkins are my craft for today, I am sharing how I made the smaller pumpkin in my video and here on my blog the larger one.
Rustic DIY Wooden Pumpkins
Supplies needed:
- Two 5 1/2″ x 6′ Cedar Dog-Ear Fence Picket
- Miter Saw or any saw to cut your pickets
- Nail Gun and nails or wood glue
- Two 14″ branches from a tree
- Hand sander and 120 grit sandpaper
- embellishment to decorate your pumpkins
- Waverly Chalk paint – Antique Wax
- Baby wipe
16 Inch Pumpkin
- With one of your pickets, measure and cut 6 pieces at 16 inches each.
- To each corner of your 16 inches board, cut a 1 inch 45° dog-ear cut.
- With your branch peel the bark off.
- Cut the branch to 14 inches in length
- Cut one end of the branch at a 45° angle
- Sand your 6 pieces of wood and the branch
- Position the branch on one panel with the angle end 5 inches from the edge.
- Attach the branch to the panel with nails or wood glue.
- Place two panels together, line the dog-ears of the two with the dog-ear of the middle panel.
- Attach the panels with nails or glue, I nailed the back, turned it over and nailed the front.
- Do the same with another two panels to the other side of the branch.
- With the last panel, place it in the center covering the branch and attach with nails or glue.
Isn’t it crazy how simple it was to create??
Now it’s time to make the pumpkin your own. I applied some antique wax with a baby wipe to the stem to darken it up to match the panels. I also added raffia and a metal leaf.
You can get creative and make yours however you want.
I hope I inspired you to grab some wood and create your two pumpkins for your home this Fall. Thanks for coming by, I hope you continue to visit regularly!!
