SANTA’S HOUR GLASS

This little Christmas DIY is my first of many.  I am working on the Foyer Christmas decorations.  I am needing a few things to sit on Santa’s desk.  One of the items needed is Santa’s time keeper.  I gathered a few items to make a cute little hour glass for him to keep track of the days before Christmas. 🙂

Here are the items I used to make Santa’s time keeper.

  •  one package of wooden snow flakes
  • one package of Christmas pencil
  • one package of clear ornaments
  • one package of sand
  • sticker gems
  • E6000 and hot glue
  • Crimson Chalk paint

First step take two of the wooden snowflakes and paint them red.

While the paint is drying on the snowflakes we will move to the next step.  Taking the ornaments and remove the wire from the caps.

Next step we will add the sand to each of the ornaments.  To make it easier to pour the sand I cut a little corner of the package.  I poured enough to cover the bottom in both ornaments.

Next step is adding E6000 to the rim of the ornament to glue the cap back on.

Take the snowflakes add some E6000 and a dot of hot glue to the center.  Place the bottom of the ornament to the glue on the snowflake.  Make sure both are centered on the snowflake.

Using two of the red snowflake pencil cut the pencils 5 1/2 inches.  I marked the measurements, making sure I cut the eraser part off.  I used the Dollar Tree hand saw to cut the pencil to size.

Using E6000 and a dab of hot glue to the top of the ornament’s cap and glue the ornaments together.  Add some hot glue to each end of the pencil and attach the pencil to the snowflake on each side of the ornaments.

Taking red and green sticker gems to each end of the snowflakes and one silver sticker snowflake in the center of the top snowflake.  I added some to the bottom of the snowflake and to the middle of the ornaments.  You can decorate your hour glass as you wish.

How fun is this?  It isn’t a functional hour glass, but I am sure you can make it functional by cutting a small hole in the ornament caps and timing the sand until the minutes you want goes through.  I just wanted mine for a décor piece.

If you like this little DIY snowflake hour glass décor save it for later.

  1. This is such an adorable idea!! My daughter has a porcelain Santa she puts in her room every year for Christmas with a mini tree. This would look so cute next to that! She could even make this herself.

    1. Michelle, you ought to make it a craft night with your daughter and both make one. It is so fun and easy to do. I love how it turned out and will look perfect on a Christmas decorated vignette. Happy holiday season my dear!
