SPRING KITCHEN TOUR

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my kitchen, technically you all have already seen the major part of my kitchen, but I thought I would give you the official kitchen tour.

Now that the house is all cleaned and the weather is starting to warm up it’s time to get my home’s decor in the season.  It amazes me what moving things around and bringing in a couple of new pieces can do to your mood and energy.  I hope this tour inspires you to brighten your home with some spring decor after you visit my kitchen.

Let’s get touring!

Kitchen area

We have a nice size kitchen which is great for entertaining since most of our guest tends to end up in the kitchen.

There are a few things that I would love to change in our kitchen, the first would be our breakfast bar.  I would love for it to have enough room between the stool and the cabinet so I can use the cabinets and drawers without having to move the stool out of the way.

I normally keep the bar area clear since we use it a lot.  Occasionally I will display a few little items when we have guests over.  And you my friend are my guest, so I put this out just for you!

We keep a few things out on the bar next to the wall area.  The mail organizer and the weather station.

For the lighting, when we built our home we had recess lighting over the bar area.  Since then we changed the lighting with a recess light conversion kit to add pendant lighting.

My counter tops are granite Santa Cecilia Gold.  The cabinets are oak and yes, they would look awesome painted.  The only thing stopping me from painting is the look of painted cabinets with wood grain.  So many steps in minimizing the grain prior to painting, look at all of the cabinets I have in this room.  I opt out of painting.

On one side of the stove I have my canisters.  I ordered them online at Amazon, they are by American Atelier  3-Piece Bianca Bead Canister Set.  HERE is the site in case you are interested in purchasing some for yourself.  Inside the canisters I store:  large canister-coffee filters, medium-tea bags and the small-disposable rubber gloves.

On the other side I placed all my wooden spoons in a pitcher and to store my oatmeal I have a large glass canister.

In the corner I display a vignette.

I like to keep it less decorated in my cooking area.  I need space, I tend to get every dish out of the cabinets when I cook.

You all know I love my little towel holder and soap tray net to my sink, I replaced the dish towel for a yellow mini check towel.  It brightens up that little corner.

I placed a little lemon coffee mug on the Keurig tray and placed a lemon dish towel and another one of my yellow mini check dish towel on the dishwasher handle.

Here is an overview shot of our kitchen area.

Breakfast Nook

If you have been with me for awhile you know that this part of my kitchen I love to decorate.

I changed up my DIY mirror and shelf wall.  This area always challenges me, so I asked a dear friend if she would take a look at this and give me her thoughts about what to do with this area.  She was so sweet and gave me some options on what she would do.  I think it turned out pretty cute.

I made the little three planter box on the shelf.  You can purchase something similar at Hobby Lobby (HERE is one similar to the one I made).  I had the wire bottle holder already so I made the three little burlap wrapped containers and added some greenery.  The beads I just placed to the side.

Underneath the mirror I placed some baskets.  The tall one I found at a thrift store for $1.99 and painted it.

The two stack-able baskets I found at TjMaxx.  The wire basket I purchased from Dollar General.  I took the liner that the wire basket came with out and placed some greenery and wooden spools inside.

On my little bench I decorated my tier tray with lemons.  Do you remember my DIY Dollar Tree lemon square?  If not you can go HERE to see how I made that.

I used hydrangea, greenery, faux lemons and my DIY lemon square.  Also added a small white creamer and sugar bowl.  I took two pieces of ribbon and placed it on the tray just to bring in a little more color.

I purchased the faux lemons from Hobby Lobby.  You can go HERE if you are interested in getting them for your home.

I purchased three books from the Dollar Tree, chalk painted them to keep with the color theme.  I added a twig and some ribbon to the top of the books.  Do you remember my burlap book cover?  I am using that under my chalk painted books.  If you missed how I made the book cover you can go HERE to check how I made that.

Above my patio door I placed my DIY lemonade sign.

Decorating my hutch is always fun.  I added some color to my hutch.  Do you notice I placed my Dollar Tree framed lemon on the top shelf?

I found the lemon branch frame at Hobby Lobby.  I repainted my vases green and yellow to carry the pop of color.  I bought some faux lemons and placed them in my bowl.  Added a couple green candles and a little green bird figurine to complete the hutch decor.

The Table

Let me walk you through what I used for this fun spring table setting.

You know when I set a table I love to layer and add some texture.  I am using my white wicker place mats, you have seen these many times, they stay on my table.  On top of the place mat I placed my DIY burlap pleated charger mats.   You could go HERE to see how they were made.  I am so happy with how they look on my table.  For the plates I am using green dinner plates that I purchased from the Dollar Tree.  I just love the plates from the Dollar Tree.  They carry Rachel Ray dishes, did you know that?  Next I am using my white Mud Pie monogram salad plates.  I also set them on my every day table.  You have seen most of my tablescapes where I use these plates because I love the details on the plate.  For the napkins I am using two green mini check dish towel.  I cut the towel in half and hemmed the cut edge.  I think they are pretty against the green and white plates.   What do you think of the DIY napkin rings? (you can go HERE to see how I made those)  I wanted something different to place on the plate, I think the napkin rings gave just the right touch.

I just love the coloring of this tablescape.  To me it screams spring/summer doesn’t it?

For the center piece; I am using my white lace canister with two forsythia stems tucked inside, I placed to the side one of my mercury glass candlestick with a green candle to give it a little shine to the table and in front two faux lemons in a glass cloche.

The green and yellow really livens up the room and gives it a fresh new feel.

This brings us to the end of the tour of my kitchen.  Here are a few more views.

  1. Hi Terrie! Your kitchen is so nice! You did a great job with all your Spring touches! They are so pretty! I have to laugh, because my kitchen is about 1/3 of the size of your kitchen . . . Yours us so big and roomy. I envy! From another conversation that we had, I don’t know if I would paint your cabinets. You have so many! And that would be a lot of work! I think if you ever wanted a quick update, you could make change out your hardware. I have done that twice in the past 22 years that I lived here and I’m ready to do it again. I just need to decide on whether or not to paint my oak cabinets! lol! Decisions! Decisions! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Maria! I have changed out my handles once. I once had gold with an off white ceramic handle. With so many handles (61 to be exact) not so cost friendly. But I agree changing out the handles does give it a face lift.

  2. Love your site. You have a lot of beautiful things. A lot but it doesn’t look cluttered. At first I wanted a fancy back splash in my kitchen, but I do like the plain tiles. Makes eveything stand out . I do have the tiles so I’m going to grab your idea. Maybe a few.😀

    1. Thank you so much Joanne! I am glad you like my blog. I enjoy sharing my home with lovely friends like yourself. I am happy that you want to use some of my ideas. That is why I love blogging to give inspiration. Thanks again sweet friend!

  3. Good morning , Terrie !!

I just love your decorations. Your home looks very clean and neat.

I wish I had the energy and know how to do things like this.

    Love you very much.

  4. This is a gorgeous tour! I love every styled corner and I really get the space now! It’s hard to imagine it all together from the ig pics. So beautiful!!💕
