Welcome back to One Room at a Time – Guest Bedroom/ Toy Room!

I finally went through all the toys in the room; purged and organized.  So today will be how we organize some problem areas in our rooms.  I will be sharing how I store toys in the guest bedroom while Tammy Patina and Paint will share how she organized her guest bedroom’s closet.  I will have her blog link at the end of my post.

Having to decorate a guest bedroom with several toys is a hard task.  I thought about how I wanted the room to feel and look, three things kept popping into my mind.

  • Eliminate visual clutter.
  • Make things easier to find.
  • Add beauty.

The best storage option for the three things I wrote down would be baskets.  Not only would they do all three things, but they are also very budget friendly.

Eliminating visual clutter

Using baskets under the bench for all the smaller toys allows me to hide all the clutter the smaller toys can make.  By adding a throw to the bench, not only gives the space color but can draw the eyes away from the baskets.

Make things easier to find

I organized the toys in categories, I then placed into their own baskets, this helps her to find the toy she wants to play with.

Add beauty to the space

Not only are baskets great for storing things, but they can also add charm to your home and provide texture to your space.

Baskets come in a variety of size, color and shapes so many options to fit what all you need.  Another option I used in the room, a wicker container.  I purchased this canister to place all of Kehlani’s creams and lotions in.  It serves as a container and a decorative piece on the chest of drawers.

Now that I have all of the smaller toys organized and stored away, do you want to see where I place all the large floor toys?  Here are how I placed them in the room.

I made a little sitting area so she could play with the easel, I gave this easel a makeover, if you missed that makeover, you could read all about it here.  EASEL MAKEOVER.  If she wants to play with her kitchen set, the table is handy as well.

The barbie house is out of the walkway now, she can sit and play without having to move when someone comes into the room.

I did a video on my basket organizing on my Facebook page.  To watch the video, click on the photo below.  Would love for you to follow my page on Facebook as well!

I like the new layout of the toys and most of all, Kehlani said “Mimi this is awesome!” 🙂  Next up, how we styled the furniture in the guest bedroom.  I can’t wait to share some inspiration!

  1. Your basket organization is perfect both for Kehlani and for your guests. Not to mention that it looks gorgeous! Great job in finding baskets that fit so well with your decor. I can’t wait to see this room all put together!

    1. I am happy with the basket organization, plus when she grows and doesn’t need the toys I can used them in other place. Thanks Tammy, I can’t wait for the reveal day as well!
