WET BAR CLOSET MAKEOVER – BACK SPLASH

Welcome back!   We are working on the back splash in the wet bar closet.  If you missed the beginning of this makeover you can check out what we have done so far with the LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER.   Today, I am sharing the back splash that we just added to the back wall.  Kristin went with JEFFREY COURT, ICE PENCIL purchased from Home Depot.  Let me just tell you, picking out the back splash was not easy at all.  We had over 20 tile samples and didn’t like any until the very last sample.  When we held it up on the wall we both knew that was the one!  And of course it was the most expensive one.  Good thing she only needed 8 sheets.

Here is the back splash she decided to go with.  JEFFREY COURT, ICE PENCIL

Before we could put the back splash up we wanted to remove the little back splash from the counter top.

We remove the counter top and cut the back splash off with a circular saw.

After we removed the little back splash we attached it back on to the cabinets.

I sanded the back wall with 120 grit sand paper, wiping it down after sanding.  We went with SIMPLE SET PRE-MIXED THIN SET WHITE MORTAR purchased at Home Depot.  Adding the mortar to the wall I used a small tooth trowel.  Making sure that I kept the trowel at a 45-degree angle spreading it evenly.   We had a system that worked really well, Jim cut the tile, I applied it to the wall and Kristin cleaned the mortar off the tiles.  I think she had the worst step.

We kept going until the last piece of tile was installed.

After the mortar sat for 24 hours  we applied the grout.  We used SIMPLE GROUT #381 BRIGHT WHITE PRE-MIXED GROUT  purchased from Home Depot.  Applying the grout with a rubber grout float keeping it at a 45-degree angle making sure to get the grout into all the crevices.

We let that sit for 15 minutes.  When we cleaned the excess grout off we used a damp sponge rinsing and wring out the sponge frequently.  With the sponge we wiped at a 45-degree angle across the grout lines trying not to take the grout out of the joints.

Little by little it is taking shape.  Next week will be the counter tops!
