Here’s another way we can use Dollar Tree’s poster board cone tree.

The supplies I used:

  • poster board
  • duck tape
  • chenille yarn
  • jingle bells
  • scissors
  • ruler and pencil
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • paint

To make the Christmas tree shaped cone, take the poster board and cut a square.  For my taller tree I cut a 16″ x 16″.

  • large tree 16″ x 16″
  • medium tree 14″ x 14″
  • small tree 12″ x 12″
  • smallest tree 10″ x 10″

Make a cone with the poster board by putting pressure on one corner, curling up the other end of the poster board to shape a cone, tape the poster board together and trim the bottom of the cone.

To view how I made my cone you can check out the tutorial here → DIY OLD BOOK WREATH.

To tone down the white poster board, I painted my cone the color of the yarn.

Place a stream of hot glue to the bottom edge of your cone and apply the yarn.

Continue gluing and wrapping the yarn around the cone all the way to the tip of the cone.

Do not cut the yarn.  Wrap more layers to the cone as desired.  I wrapped in no patterns, I like the yarn going in different directions on the cone.

Cut the yarn leaving about a 3 inch strand, wrap the cut end of the yarn around the tip of the cone making sure the end is covered.

To embellished my tree I am using Dollar Tree gold jingle bells, hot gluing them to the tree.

This is such a cute and simple craft to do, the chenille yarn gives the appearance of velvet ribbon, don’t you think?

    1. Thanks Christine. I have seen the yarn in the boxes several times when in Dollar Tree. I finally picked some up for the trees, great material to use.

  1. Terrie I am obsessed with the idea of lots of these on one long piece of furniture, a hutch, a tv console, an entry table… LOTS of them in all shapes and sizes. Your trees are just beautiful. I love that they all match and the possibilities are endless…. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
