DIY MOTHER’S DAY GIFT INSPO

Hello and welcome back to our monthly Pinterest challenge!  This is such a great challenge, participating in this challenges is so fun searching through Pinterest for a great DIY project to work on.   In case you’re new to Decorate and More with Tip, the purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to motivate you to not just pin, but to make it happen.  The challenge is hosted by Erlene My Pinterventures Blog.  This month’s challenge is about Mother’s Day or projects geared towards the women in our lives. I will link all the participants at the bottom of my page.

Still trying to work with things I have on hand I went to Pinterest to view some Mother’s Day gift inspiration.  I saw many things but nothing I could do with the supplies I had.  I saw this Etsy sign and had all the supplies to make it.  Here is the pin I took the inspiration from.  ETSY shop INTHEFRAME24  JIGSAW INSPIRATION.

Let’s get started making a perfect gift for Mom!!

Here are the items I used:

  • three puzzle pieces – I made mine from a piece of cardboard
  • Dollar tree wooden shadow box or any picture frame will work
  • piece of cardstock
  • black and ivory chalk paint
  • modpodge
  • scissors
  • print out of the perfect saying

Find the saying you want to placed on your sign.  I found mine online.  I typed it in Word and printed it out on a pretty card stock.  I knew I wanted to add three puzzle pieces in the center of my note so I accounted for the space.

If you have an old puzzle sitting around take three connecting pieces and paint them black.  I didn’t have a puzzle so I made my three pieces out of an old note book cover.  I painted my three pieces black with Waverly Ink chalk paint. Set aside to let dry.

Take your shadow box and remove the decorations in the center.  I used a putty knife and eased it off my frame.  If you are using a picture frame remove all the backing.

Since the cardstock I am using is ivory I painted the inside of my shadow box with Waverly ivory chalk paint, two coats.

Cut my card stock with the saying to fit inside my frame.  Using modpodge I coated the inside of my frame.  Placed my piece of cardstock inside.

Taking the center piece of puzzle I wrote MOM on it with my ivory chalk paint and a very thin craft paint brush.

Using modpodge I glued the MOM puzzle piece in the center and then the other two pieces to each side of it.  I gave one good coat of modpodge on the entire inner surface.

Let it dry over night.  I just love the saying!!  Wouldn’t this be a great gift to give your Mom?

I hope you enjoyed this fun simple Mother’s Day gift DIY.

    1. Thanks Cherryl. I had a great supply starting in the beginning of the COVID crisis but the supplies are getting few. Now I am trying to figure out what people might have in their homes to work with. Hope you have a safe Spring.

  1. I love using dollar store items for crafting. I’ve used those shadow boxes for a few projects, too. The puzzle quote and pieces are perfect for Mother’s Day. What a great idea!

  2. Ahhh this is such a great gift idea. Moms have a big job to do everyday and its so cute with the puzzle pieces. It really lets a mom know how much they are loved.

    1. Thanks Dori. It is hard to buy things right now. I thought what better gift then from the heart. I hope you are being safe and enjoying some togetherness with your babies.

  3. This is adorable and great inspiration. Mother’s day isn’t going to be celebrated at my house as normal.

NJ is going to lock down at least until May 15th. So disappointing and sad for the state. Nothing is open but necessary places. Getting to us.

    1. I hope you are staying safe my sweet friend.

I think we all will be playing it safe this Mother’s Day. Soon we will be together as a whole family and celebrating. Hope you have an awesome day!

    1. I just love the saying and it holds true in so many ways. It turned out so nice and am excited to wrap it up to give. Hope you have a great week my friend.
