Welcome!  Today we are sharing some creative crafts with Dollar Tree items.  Tammy Patina and Paint and I are taking some Dollar Tree items and making some really super cute Christmas decorations!

My craft is using two large plastic bowls, a can of tuna and a shower curtain ring all from Dollar Tree!  I will link Tammy’s craft down at the end of my tutorial.

Step One – Forming the bells body.

Taking the two bowls, removing the stickers and giving them a quick sanding to rough up the outer surface of both bowls.  I purchased the sanding block from Dollar Tree as well.

Make sure you sand off the rim around the top of each bowl.

Wipe each bowl with a damp cloth to remove any dust from sanding.  Taking super glue, add the glue to one top edge of the bowl.  Making sure the glue doesn’t drip over to the outer part of the bowl.  Place the bowl’s edges together to make one large ball.

Step Two – Create the bell cap.

Grabbing the can of tuna, I emptied the can, washed it and dried it well.  Added glue to the open side and placed it on the top of the bottom bowl.  Place something heavy on top of the tuna can until the glue has time to dry.

For the ring, I used one shower curtain ring, add hot glue to the part where it opens and place it in the center of the tuna can.

Step three – Painting the bell.

To create a texture vintage bell, I mixed up joint compound and black paint to apply all over the body of my bell.  I used about 1 cup of joint compound and 1/2 cup of black paint.

Apply the joint compound mixture all over the body of the bell.  I used my hands, but a paint brush would work as well, make sure to keep it as smooth as you can.

Cover both bowls entirely, making sure you cover the two lips of the bowl completely.

Let dry for several hours.

Once the joint compound had time to dry, spray paint the cap.  I applied two coats of bronze spray paint.

Mixing grey and tan paint together to create a vintage color to paint my bell.

I applied the paint to the top half of the body.

Before the paint dries, use a plastic grocery bag and tapped as much paint off as I could.

Distressing the body with a baby wipe, as you would do with sandpaper until you get the look you want.

Do the bottom half the same way.

I gave my bell a little detailing with copper and brown paint.  Applying a small amount of paint with a baby wipe.  I also used a paint brush and defined the band of the bell.

Step Four – Creating the Bell’s Slots.

With craft paper, I free handed the shape of the bell’s 4 slots.  Using a pencil trace around the pattern to the bottom bowl with the head toward the two edges of the bowl.

Paint the shape with black craft paint.

To create the look of a cut slot, I outlined the shape with the copper mixture paint and then a grey paint.

Giving it more detailing with gold rub n buff.

Step Five – Seal your Bell

To seal all of my work, I applied one coat of Minwax Paste Finishing Wax.  Follow the manufacturer’s directions.

Last step – Embellish Your Bell.

I made a swag to place on the top of the bell’s cap.

I love how my jingle bell turned out.  You can create your own styled and size bells to have fun decorating your home this Christmas season!

    1. I buy the paint from Home Depot, sample paint $6 and have a lot more paint than the paint you buy in craft stores. A little paint was all that was needed. Sometimes it’s fun working on a project than buying or thinking about how much this or that you are using.
