MY BOHO CLEARANCE FIND – TOP SHELF CLEARANCE CHALLENGE

Hey there!  Welcome back to this month’s Top Shelf Clearance Challenge.  I am joining up with six other blogging friends to share how we shop the clearance shelves to find inexpensive home decor.  When I walk into the store I tend to go straight for the clearance aisle.  How about you?

To see all my previous Top Shelf Clearance Challenge you can check that out TOP SHELF CLEARANCE CHALLENGE.

Let me show you what I found this month on the clearance shelf.

I went into Hobby Lobby a couple weeks ago for a roll of ribbon to use on my milk can.  If you missed that makeover you can go check that out MILK CAN MAKEOVER.  Anyway, I saw a basket full of  marked down ribbon.  I started digging to hunt for the color ribbon I wanted.  I found the color I wanted and a couple more styled ribbon.

Look at the price I paid !  I bought two rolls, why I don’t know.  I just couldn’t resist. 🙂

When I pulled this ribbon out of the basket I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it, I just hoped it works.  Came home and couldn’t put my purse down fast enough to see, AND it did!

I love my macrame table runner and how it looks on my dining room table.  I have been looking for macrame napkin rings to use those on my table as well.  The ribbon to me looked like macrame and would work perfect with what I had in mind.

Here is how I made my BoHo napkin rings.

  • I cut eight 10 inch strips of ribbon.

  • Measuring 4 inches from one end of the cut ribbon, I made a little mark.

  • From the 4 inch mark I took a seam ripper and detach the center strings.

Very easy to detach, it was only tack by a little stitch every 1/2 of an inch.

Did that to all three center strips.

  • The edges of the ribbon are one long looped string.  I took the seam ripper and removed the one stitch that detached the loop (just at the detached string beginning).  I pulled the string to unraveled.

  • Cutting the center ribbon away under the loose center string.  Making sure not to cut the outer strings.

  • I took the part of the ribbon that I just cut and removed the main stitch to release all the loops.  This unraveled the long string at both edges of the ribbon.

Did that to both sides and cut the strings even.

  • I wanted to add two more strings to each side of the ribbon.  I used the extra long string and thread it through the attached loop and tied the two together.

  • I tied all the strings by two in knots.

  • Using Dollar Tree’s shower hooks, I spray painted them with Rust-oleum  Warm Caramel spray paint.

  • Once the shower rings were dry, I took the ribbon and placed it through the loop leaving 4 inches from the ring to the beginning of the streamer.  I folded over the other end of the ring to attach the ribbon.  I hand stitched the ribbon onto the ring since the ring would interfere with the foot of the sew machine.  I am using a heavy duty thread.

What do you think?  Do they look like a macrame napkin ring?

I think they look pretty close!
