WINTER WREATH INSPIRATION

Welcome to Decorate and More with Tip.  If you are coming over from Debbee, Debbee’s Buzz,  I am so happy to have you.  What did you think of Debbee’s table?  Wasn’t it amazing?  I love how she captured the winter vibe.   I had so much fun participated in last year’s Winter Home Blog Hop hosted by Amber, Follow the Yellow Brick Home I couldn’t wait to join this one as well.  To view my winter family room last year you can click here ⇒ MY RUSTIC WINTER DECOR.  This year I am joining 23 talented bloggers on how you can transition your home from Christmas to winter.
Welcome to the Cozy Winter Home Tour, hosted by Amber, Follow the Yellow Brick Home.

I am so excited sharing another winter home décor. I want to add an item to the mantel to give it a little winter feel.  I thought about a wreath but wanted something different then greenery.  I found a wreath on Pinterest…so stop the hunting!  I just love the wreath Karianna, Thistlewood Farms made for her home.   You will want to jump over to see how she styled her wreath.

For all the supplies I looked in my craft closet I was surprised I had everything to make the wreath on hand.  I saved the drop cloth from my patio curtains just sitting there waiting to be used.  I have made a table runner and also a garden flag from some of the drop cloth curtains.  To see those tutorials you can click here ⇒ DROP CLOTH TABLE RUNNERDROP CLOTH GARDEN FLAG.   I still have a lot left to do this DIY wreath.  Let me share with you my version on how I made the pretty wreath.

Here is what you will need to make the drop cloth wreath

  • wire wreath form
  • a piece of drop cloth enough to make 100 leaves
  • scissors
  • hot glue and glue gun
  • a DIY leaf pattern
  • pencil

Now that you have the supplies here is the tutorial.

I took a piece of card stock and made a leaf pattern.  Took my drop cloth and drew around the leaf to make 20 leaves. I layered 5 pieces of drop cloth to cut 5 leaves out in one cutting.  Cut inside the lines so you don’t have the lines show on your leaf.

Plug in your hot glue gun, you will be needing it during this step and a couple glue sticks as well.

There are 5 steps to add the leaf to the wire form.

  1. Make two glue lines to each sides of the round end of the leaf

2.  Fold over the material

3.  Turn your leaf over

4.  Add a line of glue to the center of the fold

5.  Take your wire wreath form and pinch the glued leaf to one wire of the wreath.

My wreath form has 4 parts to it.  I glued a leaf to each wire.

I kept doing the 5 steps making sure I overlapped the rows of leaves.

After I added all my leaves I went back and tacked the loose leaves to one another with a little hot glue.

You could always add a pretty bow or some other decorations to the wreath.  Make it your own.

I added a denim ribbon to my wreath.

When I picture winter I think of texture, nature and subtle colors.  I kept that in mind when decorating our mantel this winter season.  During Christmas my mantel is very full of decorations, so it is nice to have a calming feel to the mantel.

I listed all of the participants below so you can see all the other winter inspiration they have for us.  I am so excited to tour their homes, aren’t you?  Next up is Jann, Jann Olson Blog.  I just love her fun winter décor.  She is one I love to follow because she finds the neatest thrift store finds.  You won’t want to miss her inspiration.

  1. Great wreathe! Am I the only one who has never done a drop cloth project? I made a wreathe with “regular” cloth by tying on strips and it looks limp–drop cloth definitely has the body it needed!

    1. Kathy I had drop cloth curtains up on our porch I am not using so I love using it for projects. It is a very good material to work with. Drop cloth and burlap as so great for projects.

  2. Terrie your wreath turned out so pretty and it looks perfect on your mantel! I love it for winter but I think it could be wonderful for fall too with maybe a fall ribbon. I love anything made from drop cloth. Did you scissors to cut or an exacto knife?

Love your cozy winter vibe in your living room!

Thank you so much for joining the winter home tours!

    1. Thanks Amber. Yes I think it could be use during different seasons.

I used a pair of scissors. I cut 5 layers at a time. Never thought about using the exacto knife. That might of been quicker.

Thanks for hosting the challenge. Love participating in it.

  3. Terrie, I love working with drop cloth. This wreath is darling!! It looks like it would be really fun to make. Thanks for sharing!!
    hugs,
    Jann

    1. Thanks Jann so much. Cutting all the leaves wasn’t as much fun as putting it all together. I love projects and one that is so cute like this really pays off the work.

    1. Thank you so much Michelle. I have a lot of drop cloth material and am always on a look out for some use of it. Love the wreath too. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Oh Terrie you had me at drop cloth! I am in love with your wreath and the beautiful texture it offers. It is beautiful on your mantel! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Thank you Kelly. I have a couple panels of drop cloth and have been using it in some crafts. I just love working with it. You are so sweet thanks again!

  6. I love this, Terrie and totally want to make one! But bet your fingers are hurting; I always burn my fingers! Love the window frames you hung it on, too. Such a pretty, calm look.

  7. Hi Terrie, oh I really love this idea. It looks just like a laurel wreath, so classic yet farmhouse-y. love the texture and the color is perfect for winter. thanks so much for the tutorial!

  8. Terrie, you’re a girl after my own heart. I love a good drop cloth project. I’ve made many things with the fabric but never a wreath. This is a great tutorial, and there are so many options to customize your wreath. I love the denim ribbon you chose. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Thanks Crissy. I can honestly say I have been using the extra drop cloth I have lately and love it. It is a very inexpensive piece of material and can go a long way. Happy New Year!

    1. Thanks Shannon. I can’t wait to see your creation on the wreath. I think adding decorations or leaving it plain makes a beautiful home decor piece. Have a great day!

  9. Terrie, what an incredibly unique, clever and creative wreath — awesome! And such a great tutorial too. I love to make wreaths for all seasons and occasions and this one is really special. Mine tend to be a lot fussier and colorful to go with my home decor/event, but I think the simplicity of yours is just lovely. Pinned!

    1. Debbee…I am so much like you, but after the holiday I wanted something very simple before I decorate my mantel for every day. I love having color in our home too…So happy to be touring with you. Thanks for stopping by and your sweet comment!

    1. Thanks Cindy. I will give Karianna all the credit. The wreath looks wonderful. I love the idea…she inspired me. It is a perfect neutral wreath that looks like a magnolia wreath, doesn’t it? Thanks Cindy for your sweet comments. I try to make all my tutorials easy to follow. Glad this one was. Have a great day!

    1. Thanks Marty. I love how the wreath fits in. With all the color during the holidays I just wanted something soft on the mantel. Thank you for your sweet comment.

  10. This is such a great project and perfect for winter! This is so creative, and you have provided perfect directions for everyone to re-create this great winter wreath!

    1. Thanks Chloe. I do have to hand all the credit over to Karianna. She was my inspiration. I do love how the wreath turned out and will be using it throughout the year I am sure. So happy that you think my tutorial was easy, that’s what I hope to do. Thanks again Chloe!

    1. I just love the wreath too. I resembles a magnolia wreath doesn’t it? I have so much drop cloth material that I was happy I stumbled upon this DIY that Karianna pinned. I will be using this wreath for other seasons as well.

    1. Awe thank you! I was thinking that too Kelli. I am so glad you pinned this to make for yourself. You will love it as much as I love mine. Hope you are having a great week my friend!

  12. Terrie, this is so cute! My creativity has dried up since Christmas…I am Tired!!! lol I’ll start back in awhile, but in the meantime will enjoy yours!!

    1. I hear you Pamela. I am exhausted but keep pushing myself. I have so many projects started and not enough hands these days. You just keep enjoying my blog girl….I am tickled you are here!

  13. Terrie love this wreath! I also love the “windows” behind it. The area above my new mantle is HUGE so I’ve struggled a bit to find just the right thing. I’m definitely going to have to make one of these. LOVE it!

    1. If I was to make it again I would make it a lot fuller by adding more fabric leaves. But I do love how it looks up on my windows. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out. So looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us tomorrow in your craft room!
